Dear Uta,

You don't need to cut off the dead tissue unless the humidity of the air isn't too high. Normally the dead parts remain dry (assuming that this plant is protected from rain). But if you should recognize any signs of rot, then cut off the bad part immediately. It does not harm the plant.
