Do you have evidence that it is the symbiotic fungus that kills the plant when the pH rises? This would be an interesting point, because I have thought that with a rising pH the number and activity of various exogenous soil organisms increase and this is what kills the plant. It might also be possible that the symbiotic fungus gets weak with rising pH and consequently looses its power to protect the plant. But this is just a theory.

However, without the appropriate pH and presumably also the appropriate symbiotic fungus a sucessful culture of acaule over several years seems to be difficult, perhaps impossible, at the moment.
