This is a good point; the species is claimed to be freely available, but it is still not so common, though it is the one most offered here by nurseries that don't specialise in Cypripedium.
I am looking for a good source locally, but have found no private growers with spare plants in England. For UK commercial sources, you can try the plant search at www.rhs.org.uk - you should get a few options.
Otherwise, a number of growers in Germany offer this species - I can have a look through the information that I have, if you like. In my experience, the Germans tend to have some of the finest material available, and have been very good and honest to deal with. Perhaps one of them can also advise you.
