This is an extraordinary huge clump of C.formosanum, very well
cultivated by a fellow grower. One of the plants is even double
flowered. Isn't it gorgeous?
One point is important with the culture of C.formosanum in the garden: This species can tolerate frost only as long as the shoot buds are closed. Its tendency to start growing very early makes it susceptible to late frosts and bad weather in early spring. Such clumps are only possible with the appropriate climate or with a lot of care and protection during the first stages of growth.
