In our region there are cypripediums growing in ditches along side roads. They are exposed to the full sun and we get temperatures up to 32c or so in summer....BUT...the air is dry and skies clear and the temperature will drop to 5c to 10c or so overnight. So as stated above, perhaps cool nights (but ours are very dry) are required for healthy plants.

In contrast our Calypsos don't grow in the open and if the temperatures get to 25c plus or so they are found among ground mosses on the north side of trees getting shade from the afternoon sun.
