Dear Tom,

Yes, this is the conclusion from my observations and the reports from fellow growers. Following quite logical natural rules, the probability for a lethal disease grows with the number of shoots of a Cypripedium clump. The vitality and growth rate declines and the percentage of old plant tissue increases. The result of this development is inevitable, isn't it? It is just a matter of time.

If you divide a Cypripedium every few years, keeping it at a stage of approx. 5 to 15 shoots per clump, it remains young and vital for a long time, how long nobody will be able to tell at present. The story that Cypripediums must not be disturbed is wrong! They follow the same rules as other perennials.

Best regards
