"That's interesting... especially as all the references I've found so far specify 5-10 minutes!" - 5-10 min. is the average for "ordinary" orchids, not the good ones ;-) Cyps as a genus typically need at least 30 min. and not more than 6h to do the bleaching properly. They are hardy orchids with germination inhibitors and a relatively thick seed coat. Bleach destroys these slowly.
"...this stuff is really still very much in development, isn't it?" - Yes, but not by an order of magnitude! Most of the innovations in Cyp flasking have occurred in the past 10-15yrs, although there were a few early successes 50+yrs ago. There is still a lot of perfecting to do!
