I have heard that cyps only absorb nutriets through their roots tips and I've been wondering if this is fact or fiction. The statement in itself seems a bit strange because one would have to assume that cyps only have the ability to take in nutrients through the active meristem at the end of the roots while the entire length of the root can not. If this is true then what evidence has been put forth? The only way I could see this being a reality is if somehow the velamen on the roots acts as a barrier, but even that seems like a bit of a stretch.
