I had exactly the same experience with C. pubescens last year. Of five healthy shoots in a pot, one suddenly collapsed overnight and look identical to your picture. I couldn't work out what had gone wrong (overwatering? underwatering?) but did notice some rust-brown streaks at the base of the affected stem. I simply removed it and left the plant to its own devices. It seems happy this year (despite possibly not flowering!) but I'll keep a look out for the brown streaking again.
