I read somewhere that Carson Whitlow who first produced this cross wrote that the seedlings were difficult to rear and the one that flowered was the sole survivor. I tried myself a few years ago and all seedlings died. My guess is that parviflorum would be the same as it is so close genetically. Some crosses are very vigorous and “easy” to grow but others seem next to impossible. It’s a case of genetic incompatibility.

However, not all crosses between pink and yellow flowers produce unattractive offspring, think of  'Gisela', 'Aki', 'Ventricosum' etc. so perhaps it’s the extra white that Paul doesn’t like. I guess it’s like other people’s babies – beauty is often in the eye of the beholder.
