Hello everyone,

New Cypripedium hybrids appear almost every day. But what are the criteria used to define a good hybrid? Which parameters matter the most: flowering longevity, colour, shape, number of flowers…?

Also I am wondering why most hybrids are crossed among the Cypripedium section and not other ones. C. californicum seems to me to be an interesting parent, since one might expect a result with numerous flowers? Could somebody explain to me what the “philosophy” behind hybridising is?
