Antwort auf: Historical use of C.calceolus von V. Bain am 10 Maerz, 2003 um 21:30:20:

Cypripedium spp. (mostly Cyp. calceolus, etc.) have been used as "nervine" or "calmative". I am not sure if this is one of the more popular plant for such purposes since there are many alternatives (e.g., valerian, kava, passion flower, etc). However, I do know homeopaths still use "remedies" based on Cypripedium. Then again, the amount they require for the preparation is very small.

If all or most species of Cypripedium have the same medicinal property, hybrids may be of use. However, phytochemical profile of hybrids can be different from either parent. Therefore, I am not too sure if they are as useful as their parents, etc.
